General FAQs
Who do you work with?
I work with individuals navigating pregnancy, postpartum, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, and early parenthood.
This includes first-time mothers, those adjusting to additional children, fathers and supportive partners who are affected by this transition. Care is centered on your specific experience within this stage of life.
How do I know if this is the right time to start therapy?
Many people wait until things feel unmanageable. Others reach out when they notice a pattern that is not improving on its own.
There is no threshold you need to meet. If something has been weighing on you for a while, that can be enough reason to talk it through.
What if I’m not sure how to explain what I’m feeling?
You do not need to arrive with clear language or a full story.
Part of the work is slowing down and making sense of experiences that feel confusing or hard to describe. We begin wherever you are.
Can I come to therapy even if nothing “big” happened?
Yes. Therapy is not only for crises or traumatic events.
Sometimes the strain comes from cumulative stress, ongoing worry, or subtle shifts that are difficult to name. Those experiences are still worth attention.
Will you tell me what to do?
My role is not to direct your decisions.
I offer clinical perspective, structure, and tools, but you remain the decision-maker in your life. Our work is collaborative and guided by what feels aligned for you.
What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?
Previous experiences with therapy can shape expectations.
If something did not feel helpful in the past, we can talk about that directly. Understanding what worked — and what did not — helps guide a more thoughtful approach moving forward.
What are your fees?
Current rates are discussed during the consultation process.
This allows us to review session frequency, insurance use, and any questions you may have before scheduling.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I am in-network with Aetna, Oregon Health Plan (OHP) Open Card, JCC, Health Share Oregon, and Regence.
I will be accepting Moda in the near future. However, I can seek preauthorization to approve use of in-network benefits immediately.
I also accept clients using out-of-network benefits. If you have questions about coverage, we can review them during consultation.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can request a consultation through my contact form.
I will follow up to discuss availability, fit, and next steps.
About the Process
How often do people usually meet for therapy?
Many clients begin with weekly sessions.
Over time, frequency may shift depending on goals, stability, and scheduling needs. We review this together rather than setting a fixed timeline.
How long are therapy sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are 53 minutes.
Session frequency and duration are discussed together during treatment planning.
What if I need to pause therapy for a period of time?
Life circumstances sometimes require breaks.
If that happens, we can plan intentionally for a pause and discuss how to transition back when you’re ready.
Can therapy focus on my relationship as well as my individual experience?
Yes.
While sessions are individual, it is common to explore relationship dynamics, communication patterns, and shifting roles during pregnancy and early parenthood.
Privacy & Comfort
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential with limited legal and ethical exceptions, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a vulnerable person, or court order.
We review confidentiality and its limits during informed consent so expectations are clear from the beginning.
What if I’m worried about being judged?
It is common to hesitate before saying something that feels vulnerable.
Therapy is structured to provide a space where thoughts and emotions can be explored without judgment. We move at a pace that supports safety.
Can I attend sessions from home with a baby present?
Telehealth allows flexibility, and many parents attend sessions from home.
If a baby is nearby, we can adapt. We may also discuss ways to create small pockets of privacy when possible.
What if I become emotional during session?
Emotional expression is part of therapy, and there is no expectation to remain composed.
If emotions feel intense, we slow down. Regulation and pacing are central to the work.
Can I bring notes to session?
Yes. Some people find it helpful to write down thoughts or experiences between sessions.
You are welcome to bring notes if that supports clarity or comfort.
What if someone overhears me during a virtual session?
We can talk through practical strategies for increasing privacy at home, such as white noise, headphones, or choosing a different location when possible.
The goal is to find options that feel realistic for your environment.
Telehealth & Location
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. All sessions are conducted through secure telehealth.
You can attend from a private location that works for you, which allows flexibility during pregnancy and early parenthood.
Do I need to live in Oregon?
You must be physically located in Oregon at the time of each session.
Licensing regulations require that clients are in Oregon during appointments, even though sessions are virtual.
Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?
For many concerns related to anxiety, mood, trauma, and adjustment, telehealth is shown to be comparable to in-person therapy.
We structure sessions intentionally so that online care remains thoughtful, steady, and contained.
How is my information protected during telehealth?
Sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
Documentation is stored according to professional and legal standards designed to protect your privacy.
