Meet Dr. Jennifer Schmidt, Ph.D., PMH-C
I’m Dr. Jennifer Schmidt, a licensed clinical psychologist and a mother, with a focus in perinatal mental health. I support mothers, fathers, and birth partners navigating pregnancy, postpartum, birth trauma, and the emotional transitions that come with early parenthood.
I have lived and practiced in Southern Oregon for over five years, with a specialization in trauma therapy. I offer telehealth care to clients across Oregon to make it more convenient and flexible for individuals during this life transition.
I am committed to continuing my education in perinatal mental health and trauma-informed care. I have earned my Perinatal Mental Health Certification through Postpartum Support International, where I completed specialized training focused on perinatal mental health.

Why I Specialize in Perinatal Mental Health
The perinatal period brings significant emotional and relational change. Pregnancy, birth, loss, and early parenthood can surface anxiety, grief, and uncertainty in ways that are often unexpected and difficult to name.
I specialize in perinatal mental health because this stage of life carries distinct challenges that deserve focused, informed care. Emotional distress during this time is common, yet frequently minimized or misunderstood.
My work is grounded in helping individuals make sense of these experiences, with care that is thoughtful, steady, and responsive to the realities of perinatal life.
How I Support Parents Through Pregnancy, Postpartum, and Loss
Support during the perinatal period needs to account for both emotional complexity and real-life demands. My work is collaborative and paced, with attention to what feels most relevant and manageable in the moment.
I work with mothers, fathers, and supportive birth partners navigating anxiety, mood changes, birth experiences, loss, and the identity shifts that often accompany early parenthood. Care is shaped around your circumstances, your values, and the realities of your daily life.
The goal is not to rush change, but to help you feel more steady and supported as you move through this stage.

What to Expect When We Work Together
1
Initial Conversation
We begin with a brief consultation to talk through what brings you in and what you’re hoping for. This is a chance to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.
2
Getting Oriented
Early sessions focus on understanding your experiences, background, and current concerns. We’ll identify what feels most important to address and establish a shared direction for our work.
3
Ongoing Sessions
Sessions take place on a consistent schedule and focus on what you’re navigating in real time. Depending on the moment, this may include current stressors, emotional processing, or ongoing transitions.
4
Adjusting Over Time
As your needs change, my work adjusts alongside you. Goals, focus areas, and pacing are revisited to keep support aligned with where you are now.
